What I’m Exploring Right Now

A quick note on the spontaneous Shorts I’ve been making, the five-part invisible AI series taking shape, and why I wanted a place to document the work in between.

Lately, Creator in the Loop has been moving in two directions at once.

One of them is very small.

PixelPia in a vertical video still with the words “Thinking Out Loud About AI.”

I’ve started filming short thoughts about AI on my phone, usually when something is already on my mind. No elaborate setup. No attempt to turn every thought into a complete argument. Just a question, an observation, or something I’m not quite finished thinking about yet.

I’ve been enjoying that more than I expected.

The Shorts give me somewhere to put the thoughts that are too small for a full video but too interesting to simply forget. They also let me stay closer to the moment when a question first appears, before I have researched it, organized it, and turned it into something more polished.

At the same time, a much larger exploration is starting to take shape.

Graphic for a five-part Creator in the Loop series about the AI we hardly notice in everyday life.

I’ve been researching the AI we use without really thinking of it as AI.

Not ChatGPT. Not image generators. Not the tools that announce themselves as artificial intelligence.

I mean the AI working quietly in the background of everyday life.

Recommendations. Spam filtering. Face recognition. Voice assistants. Autocorrect. Systems making small decisions for us or about us while we barely notice they are there.

That simple question has already grown into a planned five-video series.

The more I look into it, the more interesting the question becomes. Some technologies seem to stop feeling like AI once they become familiar. Others only get called AI when they make us uncomfortable. And sometimes the experience on the surface barely changes even when the intelligence underneath it changes dramatically.

I don’t know exactly where all five videos will lead yet.

That is part of why I wanted a place like this on the website.

The videos show the finished explorations. These notes can show some of what happens before that. The questions I’m following. The things I’m researching. Small observations that might become something larger, or might simply remain notes.

So this is the first In the Loop Note.

Right now, I’m making small, spontaneous Shorts while researching a much bigger question:

How much AI do we live with every day without really noticing it?
